ICEC often receives requests for guidance in efforts to expand access to EC in developing countries. In response, we have created a number of materials to assist government agencies, NGOs, health care providers, advocates and others. These materials have been extensively reviewed by leading international authorities on emergency contraception and reflect the most up-to-date information available.

All of them can be freely reproduced, translated, and adapted to meet local needs.

  • Medical and Service Delivery Guidelines
    English - Spanish - Russian - Portuguese
ICEC's most widely distributed publication, now available as a PDF file. Designed to serve as a key reference and training document for service provision, it includes a range of medical and service delivery issues in an easy to use format, from screening, dosages, and counseling to EC pill regimens. Local programs can adapt these guidelines as necessary to comply with national or other requirements.

  • Framework for Introducing EC
    English
Consortium members developed a 9-step framework for introducing EC into national programs, describing a carefully planned process designed to be participatory and responsive to client needs.

  • Adapting Resource Materials for Local Use
    English
ICEC provides guidance for adapting materials, taking into account such issues as local culture, language and literacy levels; local misperceptions or misinformation about EC; products used and distribution mechanisms.

  • Materials for Clients
    Amharic - Arabic - Cambodian - Chinese
    English - French - Haitian-Creole - Korean - Laotian - Portuguese - Russian - Somali - Spanish - Vietnamese
ICEC Member organization PATH has released the 2006 update of its client brochure “It’s Not Too Late to Prevent Pregnancy,” available in 14 languages with culturally appropriate illustrations and updated dosing information. PATH Toolkit: Resources for Emergency Contraceptive Pill Programming (2004)

One of ICEC's founding member organizations, PATH, has created a comprehensive and highly detailed toolkit to help policy makers, program planners, donors, and family planning providers introduce EC in developing counties.

The PATH toolkit gathers materials from a range of organizations (including ICEC) and includes evidence-based information and guidance for advocacy and awareness-raising as well as tools for assessment, forecasting and procurement, provider training, client information, and evaluation. The kit is available in English and Spanish (large file, over 300 pages) or, for easier downloading, eleven smaller files.
