www.ecafrique.org
ECafrique is a bilingual (French/English) international network of health care and business professionals seeking to expand the availability of quality emergency contraception (EC) services in Africa. This regional consortium covers both Anglophone and Francophone Africa and includes over 1000 individuals and institutions, representing nearly 90% of countries in Africa.. The overall coordinator is Dr. Jill Keesbury, the Country Director of the Population Council’s Zambia office. Anglophone coordination is provided by Kathy Maina in Nairobi and Francophone coordination is provided by Faye Niang Youmane in Dakar. ECafrique publishes a bilingual newsletter with extensive information about EC in Africa and conducts and facilitates activities around Africa to enhance access to EC. The network functions as a non-political, voluntary association, guided by consensus among members, and mindful of Africa's broad ethnic, cultural, and political diversity.
Goals include:
- Serve as a forum for the exchange of ideas
among professionals in the health care and pharmaceutical
sectors.
- Inspire interest and encourage new initiatives
in the provision of EC services in countries
where there is an unmet need for them.
- Build collectively the knowledge and experience
base needed to introduce, improve, and mainstream
the delivery of quality EC services, with a
specific focus on the needs and challenges of
Africa.
